Saturday Feb. 14
INTERPRETIVE BUS TOURS of the BALD EAGLE WINTER ROOSTING SITES:

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the State Park have jointly developed an Eagle Viewing Site including two small parking lots along the road that accesses Northrup Canyon off of State highway 155, approx. 7 miles South of Grand Coulee.                             Photo by Dennis King
   There is an improved trail across from the parking that winds up a knoll that
is in the center of the canyon. At the end of this trail is the actual viewing site.
 It is highly recommended that you bring a good pair of field glasses or a
spotting scope and of course you should dress warm for it maybe cold
(freezing or below).

* Bus tours Saturday: with birding guides and geology guides.
Starting at 9:00am, 11:00am & 1:30pm. The tours last approximately
1 ½ hrs, bus tour cost is $6.00/adult, seniors 62 &
older & students are $5.00/ea, children 6yrs and  under  are FREE.

* Guardians of the Coulee:    A literal Scavenger hunt. 

  Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm Free shuttle bus service into Northrup Canyon begins, leaving from the Northrup Point boat launch parking lot to the Northrup Canyon Eagle view site parking lot and returning, running approx every half hour until 5pm.

You may also drive to Steamboat Rock State Park BOAT LAUNCH #1 on
Hwy 155 along Banks Lake, (Approx. FIVE miles from Downtown Grand Coulee)
where there will be a free shuttle bus to the Eagle View Site in Northrup Canyon.
 Volunteers will be on hand with spotting scopes & binoculars to view
Eagles as they return to Northrup Canyon for their nightly to Roost.

Again this year we will be having the Quilt show and contest  featuring six categories (Modern, Vintage, Wall hangings, Hand Appliqué, Fusible Appliqué),  the quilts will be on display at the Senior Center Friday and Saturday
   
      On Saturday the Senior Center will also feature their famous “Chicken Noodle Soup and Sandwich Lunch” along with hosting the Quilt Show and “Balde Eagle Festival” partner displays, by: National Park Service, Washington St. Parks, USBR, Washington Dept. Of Fish and Wildlife, Coulee Corridor National Scenic Byway, Leave No Trace.

At the Senior Center across the street on Friday and Saturday the Balde Eagle festival “Quilt Show” will be happening (no charge).  Also around the corner and up the sidewalk the Columbia Arts Group will be hosting the Balde Eagle festival Art Show, Balde Eagle Poetry and Essay contest, and the Balde eagle Photo contest. 

Historical Photos & Art Display at the Grand Gallery Theatre from 9:00am - 4:00pm

Raptor presentations at the Grand Gallery Theater 201 Main St. Saturday 10:00am, 11am & 1:00pm.  $5.00 each

Saturday 6 - 8pm - Wine Tasting and Desserts by White Stone Winery  $5.00 Each (2 Samples) Photo and Art Auction. Grand Theatre.

THIS SHUTTLE BUS WILL RUN EVERY 20 MINUTES UNTIL DUSK AT APPROX. 5:00 PM

 As with all tours, bring cameras and binoculars. There will be guides on bus tours, they will point out Eagles and other birds as well as local points of interest, historical, geological, etc.

Eagles reach maturity, at age 4 or 5, their instincts draw them back to the area where they first flew off from their roost. This is the time that they pair with another eagle, set up an area to nest in, and begin building a large nest to raise their chicks.

Grand Coulee Dam Area Bald Eagle Roosting, Nesting & Feeding Sites:

* Northrup Canyon - 7 miles S. of Coulee Dam. The best Viewing
     of Bald Eagle Roosting Sites are from 2:00pm to Dusk.( 5:00pm)

* Along Banks Lake, Coulee City to Soap Lake

* Below Grand Coulee Dam along the Columbia

* Lake Roosevelt - Grand Coulee to Kettle Falls
